To be fair, it’s only some $5.44 per hour per dog (and even less on leap years). That’s a lot less than the minimum wage. So Bow Tie obviously did a good job on that one – our lowest paid are entitled to more than 5 times the amount the super-rich spend on their pets!

The scribes of government PR must be working feverishly to get out that message.

Anyone who ever visits me in HK from the Eastern side of Scotland upon hearing of the Canny Man’s existence inevitably says, “Ah, is that the same chain as the one in Edinburgh?”

Not sure how Mr. Kerr would have reacted to that!

Anthony Hedley’s no “evil bitch”. He was polite every time I corresponded with him.

You wonder why it took a year and a half for Connell to respond to this rant? Maybe it’s because the Hong Kong Highlanders had a gathering at The Canny Man this month. Connell’s its membership secretary. Maybe she showed up and the two of you met face to face.

As I am Scottish and therefore traditionally frugal with my bawbees, may I suggest a form of loo paper which employs little effort and both recycling and ‘much cheapness.’

It involves folding and cutting up a SCMP (or any other broadsheet) into squares, running a string through them and hanging the bundle in easy reach of the pan. The paper is quite absorbent although you can get ink transference on your hoop! Seemples! On the ‘whole’ it is quite good!

I will be visiting HK in late October and hope to acquaint myself with the ‘Oasis in Wanchai,’ then. Cheers.
